First of all, thanks. This is the kind of question we like to hear. And yes, our printers will work in your system. Many systems directly support our printers, in which case replacing your printer may be no more complex than unplugging it and plugging in your new Cognitive printer. But every printer manufacturer uses a different printer language, so in some cases you may need to revise your label formats or label printing software. Your local dealer can help with compatibility issues and our Sales Department can also provide compatibility information.

Yes. Some minor system or software modifications may be needed, depending on the printers involved.

If you are replacing an older (non-enhanced) Barcode Blazer or your present label formats use dot times other than 100, a high speed Barcode Blaster (model BD422005, BD242005, BT422004, BT242004) or Blaster Advantage (model BD422003, BD242003, BT422003, BT242003 with firmware version 1.4 or above) will provide the best compatibility. These printers feature a Blazer Compatibility Mode that lets them closely imitate the non-enhanced and enhanced Blazers and support variable dot time.

If you are replacing an Enhanced Blazer or Upwriter and do not need variable dot time, Solus or any Barcode Blaster will provide reasonable compatibility, provided the replacement printer supports the same print density (for example, 100 or 200 DPI) as the original printer.

Barcode Blaster SR and Barcode Blaster CL model BL423002 will both print at 300 or 150 DPI, and a 300 DPI Solus will be available soon. Some modifications to your label formats may be required to compensate for your old printer's dot time and speed characteristics.

We provide spare parts and repair services for most of our discontinued products, and media for all of our products. We have stopped stocking spares for a few of our older printers, but can probably recommend a supplier for you. Contact our Sales or Technical Support Services Department for information.

We also manufacture replacements for most of our older printers. If you have a desktop Barcode Blazer or Upwriter, the current replacement will be a member of the Barcode Blaster or Blaster Advantage family. If you have a 4.25" Portable Barcode Blazer, Code Courier can replace it.

Your old media will probably work OK, if it was within specification for your old printer and your new printer is otherwise compatible with the one you are replacing. You may need to adjust the print darkness and speed in some cases.
