 Scantech Pollux/Castor/Galaxy ç è Polaris Connection

The Scantech Pollux, Castor and Galaxy AUX port offer the feature to connect a hand held bar code scanner like the Polaris P-7010. This document describes all technical requirements.

The Pollux, Castor and Galaxy accept the output from the P-7010 and forward the bar code information to host interface (Port 1 or Port 2), independent from the host interface selected.

HARDWARE CONNECTION

Connect the Polaris scanner to the Pollux, Castor or Galaxy AUX port with Polaris cable
P/N A231702 plus adapter cable P/N A201817.

FIXED SCANNER SETTING

The Pollux, Castor or Galaxy requires firmware version SW: S70C1507 or higher
(refer to the scanner labeling).
The AUX port can be turned ON or OFF with the programming bar codes shown below:

Q: Do I have to change the default settings from the Polaris scanner when I want to connect it to an IBM system?
A: No you can use the Polaris scanner with the default settings, because the converter will change the data formatting.

Polaris converter RS232 to IBM 468X-469X/port 5-9

The IBM converter models 10K55 and 10K60 are designed to allow effortless connectivity of the Scantech Polaris P-7010 scanner to the IBM 468X and 469X register families. It emulates either an IBM fixed scanner or an IBM handheld scanner. It connects into IBM port 5 and 9 and mates with the DB9 cable supplied with the Scantech scanner.

 Connecting the Polaris converter

Follow these steps to connect the Polaris converter to the host system and the scanner.

The cable has only one parameter to configure-which IBM scanner to emulate and hence the IBM address the cable will use. This is accomplished by removing the top of the cable as shown in the example. Using a coin or a large flat blade screwdriver inserted between the DB9 connector and the top of the case as shown in the diagram, apply a twisting force to the coin or screwdriver to snap apart the case and expose the dip switches. Dip switches 2, 3 and 4 are reserved and should be placed in the off position towards the end of the case. Dip switch 1 controls the model of IBM scanner emulation. With this switch placed towards the end of the case like switches 2, 3, and 4 the cable will emulate an IBM handheld scanner. With the switch placed towards the DB9 connector, the cable will emulate an IBM fixed scanner. After the switch configuration has been verified, carefully align the case top and bottom halves and apply force to the cable halves to close the case.

Attach the Scantech cable (A231709) to the converter and put the RJ jack into the scanner and switch on the IBM register system.

Scanner configuration: The 10K55 and 10K60 are designed to operate with a scanner that has been programmed to RS232 default. To do so scan the following barcodes in the user’s manual. On page 19 you have to scan code 1 and on page 20 code 2. The scanner is now in RS232 default.

Setup the IBM register: First turn off the power to the IBM register. Next re-apply power to the IBM register. The scanner should now be ready to use.

Q: I have installed OPOS but my Polaris scanner doesn’t work.
A: You have to program preset one from the Scantech configuration guide.
Q: How do I program the Freeze Frame option?
A:

Polaris Freeze Frame is kind of triggered mode.
This is how it works:
1. Press the scanner button
The laser pattern will start blinking and
the scanner will not read codes until :
2. Move the scanner towards the barcode (zoom-in)
3. Release the scanner button

The scanner will read the bar code.
This feature is only available from software number: SN 80E0412 or higher in combination with the scanner part numbers PN A230102 , PN A2301021 and A2301041 or higher or with software number S8010704 or higher.
