These new models look like
the previous models. What is different?
We
collected comments and requests from our customers and
determined that new electronics were required to
incorporate requested changes and feature additions. All
the new models have new electronics, flash memory, and
more default static ram memory. This means that memory
upgrades are no longer needed to print on labels longer
than 5.5 inches. In addition, the flash memory makes
firmware upgrades easier to install since it is merely a
file download rather than a mechanical job.
What documentation is
shipped with the new models?
We provide
a quick start guide and a CD that contains programming
manuals, demo software, utilities, and windows drivers.
I installed the Create-A-Label
Tools software from the CD and the printer icon is
grayed out. The only way I can print a label is from
"print sample". What is wrong?
Create-A-Label
Tools is both a utility and a demo software package for
Create-A-Label3. If you want to print production
quantities from software you will have to purchase the
package from your reseller. When you purchase, you will
receive a hardware key to plug into your computer's
parallel port and it will activate the CALTools software
you already installed. You don't need any additional
software if you are using Tools to download formats for
use with the KDU (keyboard display unit).
What does it take to print from
an AS400 to these printers.
Some kind
of protocol conversion is required. Many users have
terminals with auxiliary ports, or pc's with TwinAx
adapters, or standalone converters. The key is to get
ASCII streams that the printer understands through a
port and into the printer.
I wrote a program in Visual
Basic and the printer just prints my code. What is
wrong?
You have to
install the "generic text printer" and make it
your default printer so that data goes to the printer as
ASCII and does not get bitmapped.
Do you have Mac drivers for
your printers?
No, we do
not.
I see references to the
terms "Dump Mode" and "AutoSense".
What do they mean and how do I set the printer to
"dump" or "AutoSense"
The
"Dump Mode" is used by developers to
troubleshoot programming problems. Technical Support may
direct the user send a Dump Mode printout to evaluate
the data being sent to the printer when the printer does
not behave as expected at print time.
"AutoSense" is another term for calibrating
the label to the printer. Both dump mode and AutoSense
are done in the same operation.
I loaded a new roll of labels and
get a red light or I have been printing off this roll
for a while and now I have a red light. What do I do?
(The light
may be orange in the case of a TLP2746) Perform the
AutoSense procedure:
For Desktops: Power off, press and hold feed button,
turn power on, release feed button after 1 second. Wait
for calibration labels to feed and a configuration label
to print. At this point the printer is also in ascii
dump mode. Press the feed key to restore the printer to
normal. The led should now be green.
For TLP2746: Leave power on. Press and hold cancel key
and then pause key together. Release cancel and then
pause and wait for calibration labels to feed and
configuration label to print. The printer is now in dump
mode. Press cancel key to restore to normal.
